Bald River Falls

Today we took a trip to Bald River Falls in Tellico Plains TN. (This is just off the Cherohala Skyway.) We had a really great day enjoying the falls, wading in the stream and just enjoying the scenery.

Summer School Update, this week

This week in our homeschool, Peyton is reviewing division. Lesson 26 MUS, He is also learning how to find the area of a cube. And then figure how many gallons of water a certain dimensioned pool might need. He has finished up all his 4th grade T4L LA lessons. (And is working now on extensions daily.)

Lexi is working on subtraction (regrouping) in thousands. And reviewing time, and talley marks.
Lesson 26. We stopped earlier and didn't finish HOP so we will be reading the chapter books in Box 4 and doing T4L LA.

So for those that think I push the kids to hard, making them school in the summer time, it really only takes them an hour a day to do their lessons. I really feel they need to continue to work on math and LA during the summer even when they finish their MUS books. (They are on lesson 26 and have 30 lessons.) After that they can do a little T4L math review. We will be taking off 4 weeks during the summer at some point.

We don't have alot of plans for the summer, Jessica, Gary's daughter is coming for a visit at the end of June. I really just want some down time this summer. Where we are not running every where.

Peyton is in his 2nd week of Spring Training for PeeWee football. So he has practice every night this week. Lexi is in VBS at night.

I am also trying to get in some guitar time, with my new Learn and Master the Guitar program.
And trying to catch up on some household organization, and cleaning, etc.

Patio furniture for deck.

For the sun deck I wanted some sling furniture. (No cushions that had to be removed.) The table has tiles on it. The chairs are comfortable and don't hold water.

You can see the color we plan to paint the deck under the chairs. It is called brick dust. It blends well with the red in the bricks.

Rock Garden around deck-Done!

Well I never did post the final pics of the rock garden after we finished it.

So here they are. It is a big improvement. We also plan to rock the other flower bed at the back of the house. So all flower beds surrounding the house will be rock beds. (This will save us on mulching year after year.) We still have a few places we have to mulch. (Around the mailboxes and in one back flower bed.)

Our only other summer project is getting the deck painted. Which seems to be much harder to do because it rains so much. We have had pop up showers daily, and they are in the forecast daily too. The deck needs a day or two just to dry out so it can be painted. Then once you put paint down, it needs time to dry at least a good 12 -24 hours. But I guess having rain is better than not having it.

Home Repairs- New Doors

Our Old Front Door-Exterior View, Scribble is over house number for privacy.
This door was in OK shape, but since we were replacing the other two on the main floor
we felt we should just do them all. Plus we wanted to provide some extra
light inside the house.

Old Front Door-Inside View (boring!)
New Front Door Exterior View

Blinds Closed Inside View
Well I love the no dusting of the blinds, also I don't have to worry about Dixie eating the blinds.
No double doors to go through anymore. Before we had storm doors on every door. I really like the color too.

Where Your Treasure is.....There is your heart also.

treasure chest

Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a
treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where
no thief comes near and no moth destroys.
Luke 12:33b-34 (NIV)

We have been doing home repairs again. We have some repairs each year that we have to make. (Our home is about 30 years old.) 30 years ago it was considered a great home, spacious, luxurious, etc. Just in the past 90 days we had to replace a dishwasher, a refrigerator, a van alternator, an AC unit. We also had a couple things we actually planned for this year. Having new doors installed (because the old ones were-uh 30 years old and really 2 really needed replacing.) We also planned to add rock around the deck because the clay was just plain unattractive.

So every year we have planned repairs, and home improvements and every year we try to leave a little cushion for those unexpected things-emergencies.
We just never thought so many would hit at one time. We do repairs because we have to, it's part of being a good steward of what God has given us. But someday we will hand all this over to others, who did not work for it.

The old dishwasher worked ok, but it finally died. Of course my new one has nice bells and whistles since it is a brand new model. My new refrigerator is great it has so many great features, I really like it. It has alot more options and space than my old one. But you know what? In 5 years they will be old appliances and the new ones will have more features, and save even more energy and will have even more bells and whistles etc.

It just really brings things into perspective. The things of this world deteriorate.
They grow old, useless. (I have some old items that absolutely worthless today.)
I mean who wants an old 8 track tape player? An old printer without a copier, and expensive inks. Today they are worthless. People don't even want them for free.

Matthew 6:19 Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

It is nice to be able to consider the things that will last forever. God's word, our relationship with him, our relationships with others, things we do that advance the cause of Christ and his Kingdom. These things will last, they will go on into eternity. The souls that are won, the lives that are changed forever, these are the things that matter. I have heard people before mention that they are going to get jewels in their crown, and have treasures in heaven. Some actually count on receiving Gold and silver etc, as some time of reward for what they did on earth. I don't know about that...I think the treasures in heaven are the souls of the people you influenced, or perhaps somehow helped come into the kingdom.
Maybe through a contribution to a missionary, personally witnessing, maybe
participating in discipleship of others, etc. When I think of heavenly treasures I see faces of people with beaming smiles, those snatched from the fire!

1 Peter 1:3

In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you,
