Gospel in the Stars Study

I know it has been a while since my last post. Life has been very busy lately. Over the last few weeks I have joined with a few ladies in our church to do a bible study at the local jail.  We are very excited about being able to share God's word with these ladies. 99% of the ladies we are working with struggle with addictions. We hope to bring the message of hope and God's delivering power to them.

A few weeks ago I was cleaning out my bookshelves and found this book. I bought it years ago, and we really never got around to doing the study. So with only a few weeks left in our school year-I thought it was the perfect time for a short little study like this.

The Gospel Message in the Stars

It is really fascinating and I really want to share some of it with you. The more I learn, the more I want to know, and the more I research. So I been doing a lot of reading and research lately on this-in my spare time.  I have also been watching several Youtube videos (and they are all quite long).

I had never heard the "the gospel in the stars story" before and have been amazed that this story has been in the heavens since day 4 of creation.  Here is the book I am using as a base for the information.

It is related to Astronomy -which is the study of the stars. Please don't confuse this with Astrology-which is a perversion of Astronomy. (Astrology takes what God set in the heavens as signs to declare his son, and his plan-and makes the stars-all about you instead of all about Christ.)

Here we see God upset with those that choose to worship the Zodiac. We can observe it- but we worship the creator of the Zodiac-not the Zodiac. I will just say here that if you are someone who reads a daily horoscope, you really should ask God for forgiveness. It is dabbling in witchcraft and the occult (rebellion against God). He is the one who has your destiny in his hand. (Not the stars.) You can click the link on the word Astrology above to learn more.

2 Kings 23:5
He put away the idolatrous priests whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in Judah’s cities and round about Jerusalem—also those who burned incense to Baal, to the sun, to the moon, to the constellations [or twelve signs of the zodiac], and to all the hosts of the heavens.

The Gospel in the Stars has been told since ancient times. In days of old there was no tv, people would lay out in fields and look at the stars, and these stories would be handed down from one generation to the next. In fact when you begin to study it, you see when Daniel was carried off into Babylon -he later was put in charge of the wise men of Babylon-here he handed down his teachings of the stars/and prophesies concerning the Messiah.

Daniel 2:48
Then the king placed Daniel in a high position and lavished many gifts on him. He made him ruler over the entire province of Babylon and placed him in charge of all its wise men.

 Years later the "wise men from the east", the east being -East of Israel which would be the area of Babylon-Persia. These men had been taught to study the stars and were also taught concerning the prophesies of a new king to be born. They saw "His sign" in the stars, and went to Israel to inquire of Herod. They had been taught what to look for.
       (For more information on "His sign" you can check out this video.   It is worth the time investment of 2 hours to watch it, but if you want to just get a quick look fast forward to 48 minutes. Where he gets into the time of Jesus and shows what the stars at that time looked like.)

Matthew 2
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men [astrologers] from the east came to Jerusalem, asking,
Where is He Who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the east [a]at its rising and have come to worship Him.

So I will share a little of what we are learning here, and hopefully provide a few links, etc. that will help you look further into it. It will require several posts, since I am breaking this up daily for my children. Right now I have them journaling some scriptures and facts.

So we see in the Bible that God speaks through his creation.

 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature–have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse ” (Romans 1:20, NIV).

On Day 4 of Creation, God creates the Sun, the Moon, and the Stars. He even says WHY he made them.

Why:
To separate day from night.
To serve as signs and tokens (reminders) of God's care and Omnipotence.
To establish seasons, days, and years. (our calendar, and seasons.)
For light.
To rule the day and night.

Genesis 1:14
And God said, Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be signs and tokens [of God’s provident care], and [to mark] seasons, days, and years,
15 And let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light upon the earth. And it was so.
16 And God made the two great lights—the greater light (the sun) to rule the day and the lesser light (the moon) to rule the night. He also made the stars.
17 And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth,
18 To rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good (fitting, pleasant) and He approved it.
19 And there was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.

The heavens declare God's glory. This verse goes on to say that they proclaim and reveal knowledge-there is no language under heaven -where they cannot be heard. These signs he set forth on Day 4 tell a story that everyone in every language on earth can understand. It is also worthy to note that all 12 signs of the Zodiac are the same in every language. They have been known as these same names since the earliest days of mankind.

Psalm 19:1
The heavens declare the glory of God;
    the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech;
    night after night they reveal knowledge.
They have no speech, they use no words;
    no sound is heard from them.
Yet their voice[b] goes out into all the earth,
    their words to the ends of the world.
In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.
    It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
    like a champion rejoicing to run his course.
It rises at one end of the heavens
    and makes its circuit to the other;
    nothing is deprived of its warmth.

The Bible tells us in Psalms that he even names the stars. Each one has a name, the names have a meaning, and they tell a story. A redemptive story.

Psalm 147:4
He determines and counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by their names.

As we learn the names of the stars and the constellation they are in-a beautiful story begins to unfold.

Background:

The Zodiac is also known as the Mazzaroth.  The root word is zoad, which comes from the ancient Hebrew word " Sodi " which means a way, a path or a step.

In the Book of Job, Moses records, this:

Job 38: 31
Can you bind the chains of [the cluster of stars called] Pleiades, or loose the cords of [the constellation] Orion?
32 Can you lead forth the signs of the zodiac in their season? Or can you guide [the stars of] the Bear with her young?
33 Do you know the ordinances of the heavens? Can you establish their rule upon the earth?

So God mentions the Zodiac in the Bible, he mentions the constellations. He set them there for us to see His glory.

These 12 major signs move around the ecliptic, or the path the sun travels through the heavens. There are 12 tabernacles of the sun, each one of them has associated with it-three decans. The word decan comes from the word meaning "piece". Theses minor constellations each tell a piece of the story and help further explain the meaning of the major signs. Each major constellation takes of 30 degrees of sky; 12 X 30 = 360 degrees. (A complete circle).  It is also interesting to note that there are 12 major signs of the Zodiac, which are the 12 chapters in the heavenly story,  12 Tribes of Israel, 12 apostles, and 12 months in a year.  Taken from Media Angels book I show above.

My original plan was to go through the different constellations and their decans, etc. But after consideration I have decided not to. There is just way to much here to cover. Plus I really like visuals. So the best thing to do is just list some other sites I found really interesting where you can get further information.

One thing I like about the book I am using is that it is "doable". It is enough to get the message across, and teach the kids, but not overwhelming. So a few stars are mentioned with each constellation.

This site is very interesting.  I have not read it over totally, I have just been researching through the material myself.  I do think they have done a great job of naming stars, meanings, and putting pictures online for you. None of which I have, and I don't want to put copies of the pages on my blog. (Plus it is a lot of work and time consuming.)

Out of youtube videos-I have watched many hours of videos and I really like this one, for just summing it all up in the least amount of time.
